Harry Ware: Police Rescue Squad

The Police Cliff Rescue Squad was first formed in 1942 with the express purpose of recovering bodies of suicide victims or rescuing people trapped on cliffs.
Mr Harry Ware, who had been the chief rescue instructor for the National Emergency Services during WWII, and a former rigger on the construction of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, was invited to form the Police Rescue Squad.
It is now known as the Rescue and Bomb Disposal Unit and has a permanent base at Zetland and a number of part-time Units around the state including Cooma, Goulburn, the Illawarra, the Blue Mountains, the Hunter, Bathurst and Lismore.
