Arrests in the north...but convoy pushes on
The West Australian, 11 August 1980
The West Australian

The WA Government, under Premier Court, gave police protection to an Amax convoy escorting an oil-drilling rig. Aboriginal people from all over Australia travelled to Noonkanbah to help the Yungnogora people in the fight to stop the Amax mining company drilling on their land. The duty of police to provide protection to this lawful convoy over an approximate distance of 2500 kilometres, and to prevent breaches of the peace, came to a head in Port Hedland.
