Citizens join police in the Belmont murder manhunt. Brian Robinson, after quarrel with his father, went on a violent shooting spree. Without provocation he shot and killed Police Constable Noel Iles and bystander Andrew McDougall at suburban Belmont in 1963. He headed for the Gnangara Pine Plantation where citizens assisted police by forming a cordon around the area. Robinson was captured and sent to trial. He was hanged at Fremantle in January 1964. Constable Iles left a
wife and 4 children.
