The so-called 'Razor Gang Wars' raged in Sydney with criminals using the straight razor as the weapon of choice. It was 1929 before Police put an end to the violence. Smith, Bezzina, Williamson, Feutrill, Hodder and Hopson were arrested during a raid led by new CIB Chief Bill Mackay, on a house in Lower Darlinghurst suspected of being frequented by criminals.
The Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), formed in 1928 from the existing Detective Branch, is to-day the State Crime Command.
